Capture Your Mind
Bob Chambers
Have you ever had one of those brilliant ideas that pop into your head while out jogging, when you wake up in the middle of the night, or driving on the way home? One of those earth shaking ideas that would mean the difference of working for someone else or owning your own business. Or maybe just one of those simple ideas that would mean an increase in pay. Well, if you're like the rest of us you probably have had trouble remembering that idea when you finally got to someplace where you could write it down. I have this problem often. Lately I've found that I even write notes and lose them. So what's the best solution? One-way is to keep a small notebook with you at all times. Then when you have one of those brilliant ideas you can write it on paper. But if you use this or any other technique, make sure you write enough to make sense about your idea. Remember, when you're thinking of something you know just what you mean when you write some shorthand notation. But later you won't be in the same frame of mind and your notes may not make any sense. One of the best ways I've found is to have a small voice recorder. Then when you have an idea just speak into your recorder and say as much as you can about your idea. You will find you can talk you can put more information on file when you talk than when you're writing information down on a note pad. The voice recorder I use is the Sony IC recorder ICD-MS1. This little recorder is great because I can make notes on the recorder. Then later I can put the memory stick (it uses a memory stick to store audio) into my computer's reader and have my words transcribed directly into a word processing program. This unit stores 60 minutes of voice and operates full time or on VOR (Voice Operated Recording). It runs on two AAA batteries and is about the size of a small cell phone. You can get more information about this recorder at http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/icrecorder/models_icdms1.html If this link no longer works then go to http://sony.com and search for "ICD-MS1".
